Last time we went to Tokyo we were in a comfortable position of being able to pick less known places to visit as we already had done the touristy ones. The time of the year was perfect too. There’s quite a few festivals around the city in October. We went to Nikko for the Toshogu Shrine Festival and had a rough idea of what we would see.
Kawagoe was something else. So much so, that even today, although mesmerized by what we saw, I’m not entirely sure how it worked…! It is a battle between these rather amazing floats, starting when they meet at different crossings on the streets of Kawagoe. Who decides who wins I have no idea. But it was completely unexpected and an experience never to forget.
