Lens-Artists Challenge – Sanctuary

When you stay away from your country of birth and family for years, going back is like seeking sanctuary, we find peace and comfort in what we love the most. Soon enough, if we are lucky, both countries are home.

Since March things changed. For us, it meant we had to shield, our small back garden’s a place to relax, explore, have fun and get that elusive vitamin D. We enjoy planting things and see them grow, we enjoy looking after what we had and see them prosper, we enjoy picking up the herbs to make our cooking more interesting. These small comforts are a privilege we don’t take for granted.

Shielding is now paused in Scotland. The world has opened a bit more, work has resumed and school’s about to start, we decided to keep our house as our sanctuary. If/when things turn for the worst, we will turn to our little space again, knowing it will keep us safe again.

  1. “If/when things turn for the worst, we will turn to our little space again, knowing it will keep us safe again.” A comforting thought and beautiful images, Sophia. To find sanctuary in your own home and backyard is essential – but maybe we need help to see it is there.
