
From this photo you’d probably couldn’t tell, but this is a ruined abbey. Maybe the gravel is a bit of a clue. Melrose Abbey is in the Scottish Borders. I took this photo several years ago, have been back there a few more times but I still love this shot. The colours are a bit saturated just to show the different hues of the stone, which are lovely. This small door to the side of the main body of the abbey just shows the age, 12th Century, and simplicity of the architecture.

What an enormous amount of stone there must be in the entire abbey! The one in the photo dwarf the door.

The extra boost of color in the image brings out details that wouldn’t have otherwise been discernible. The leading lines of the columns invite one to enter that doorway. Nice composition, Sofia!
