Here is the first of my Lisbon series for this year. I selected one of the “noble avenues” (Av da República), called as such because they were expansions done in the beginning of the 20th Century, from the older sections of the city’s downtown. They were bigger, wider, modern. A lot has been lost, as usual. Beautiful buildings are just left surrounded by monstrosities. I’ll start with a basic building with flats but even then that door is wonderful. I also liked the tiles as they reminded me of the Alhambra, in Granada.
