The Portuguese version of Versailles or so they say. I’ve never been to Versailles but I do enjoy visiting this Palace in Queluz, just outside Lisbon. It was built as the summer residence for the Royal Family at the end of the 18th Century and I’m not really sure why leave Lisbon for it in the summer as it is equally, if not warmer than the capital. I suppose the gardens make up for a pleasant stroll and the palace itself is a gorgeous example of the rococo decadence inside. There was a time when most older state buildings where consistently painted this shade of pink. Now, apparently in its original colours, the palace is blue and yellow with darker blue doors…

I love the colors and there’s just enough shabbiness to look sort of home-y in a well–to-do way. 🙂

Beautiful doors in need of a little TLC but the weathering just adds to their character 🙂
