Lens-Artists Challenge – Communication

So much of communication about us this days and there seems to be less people understanding any of it. Was it always like this, or now we have a better perception of how bad it really is? I’ve recently watched a programme about the invention of writing and how all alphabets have the same origin. How the supply of writing surfaces influenced how far knownledge was accessible to the wider population, if they could read, that is.

Then there’s books to keep that communication going but more privately, less for the masses. In Portugal we have azulejos as another form of telling stories of all sorts. They visually capture other times and habits, showing us how things were in the 17th-18th Century. And now we have other forms of artistic communication, faster, less permanent but equally valid and important.

There was always ways to communicate, some of them very much in control, and for the control, of the communities. The Catholic Church used it to great effect. These are your saints, these are the things you can aspire to or fear. All set in stone for eternity.

Some, like myself, just wish we could do this…

So much for the communication overload. We still have the need of other forms to reach out.

  1. Interesting take on the challenge – yes communication has definitely evolved through the years – to the point where perhaps we’ve gone too far! Personally I find tuning out these days is more rewarding than tuning in!

  2. Hello Photographias Human! I like your response to my challenge. Ma Leueen showed me our photos I like the one with youngster and the colorful bird. And the woman in that photo holding her finger up to her mouth. I know what that means. 🐴
